Questions That Need Answers
Q. Where am I? What is this place? I demand to know!
A. This is the Digital Nintendo Directory, a resource site for downloadable software available on Nintendo's platforms. Largely covering the Virtual Console, WiiWare, DSiWare, whatever shows up on 3DS, and a few extra stuff here and there.
Q. Oh yeah? What kind of resource?
A. If you want to find out what's out, where it's out, when it came out this is the place you want to be! Besides general game information, I try to give each page a video, some screens, and a Nintendo-provided description.Q. Ok so what's the hook?
A. Besides the treasure trove of information I'm bestowing upon you? Probably the Notes & Highlights that I personally try to compile for each game where I brief you in on what can only be considered the best details you need to know.Q. Sounds neat, but are these any good?
A. For the most part, I'd rather leave that up to interpretation. I don't really consider the Notes any sort of review but you're bound to get the impression that some games stink and some games just reek of pure delicious awesome. Right now though, I don't have any plans for formal reviews, but as this site is just beginning that's likely to change down the line.Q. Wait, who the hell are you?
A. I am the wise and just overlord that oversees all Nintendo Downloadable releases everywhere. My real name is Derek Liesse but that's boring. My common Internet handle is WarioFan63. Friends call me "WF", "Wario", "Agent Nintendo", and "Leave me alone about Rhythm Heaven already".Q. Hey idiot, there's a mistake here. How can I beat you up for getting this wrong?
A. Woah now, calm down. If you believe you've noticed a mistake of any sort, such as a spelling error or a broken link or a removed video, you can contact me at the e-mail link that's at the bottom of every page. EVERY. PAGE. I'll save you the trouble of scrolling down though. Here you go.Q. I noticed a mistake! Why don't you have Earthbound listed under Virtual Console? It's out in Japan!
A. That's not a mistake you fool! A common misconception is that some people seem to be under the impression that Earthbound is available for VC in Japan. The truth is that neither Earthbound nor the original Mother game are available on Japanese Virtual Console. I guess the little demo in the Japanese version of Brawl threw people off.Q. A lot of these pages are missing content! How can you claim to be so helpful when most of this website is empty? Are you a liar? I don't visit websites that lie, sir.
A. Well hey! I thought it was an accomplishment just getting 1700+ pages of games up but I guess that just won't cut it will it? Right now it's just me filling out those pages and since I'm only one person (supposedly) it's going to take a LOT of time to get the good stuff up. All I can say is be patient and bear with me.Q. Where do you get the Official Description from? My mind yearns for the answer.
A. The Official Description is basically a Nintendo-provided description. Basically the description you'd see when looking at the game in the Shop. At least in America. Seeing as I live in Americaland, anything with a US release will be based on NoA-provided descriptions. Anything with no US release but a Euro and Aussie release, I grab what I can off NoE's website. Anything with just a Japan release, I google translate what I can only assume is the description and we have a good laugh.Q. I hail from the Eurolands and I can provide you a Shop description that is more accurate then what you found. Do you want it?
A. Yes please! I get the feeling that the NoE website doesn't always have exactly what is said on the shop so if you want to dedicate your time to typing up the real description verbatim and sending it my way, I would be pretty grateful! The same is also true if you own a Japanese system or glance over the Japanese websites I grab these from and can provide a stable translation of the description.Q. Why does Japan have way more VC games then us? This is an outrage! Will you join me in my crusade to send angry glances to Nintendo?
A. No way! Actually, why are you surprised that Japan has much more VC games? After all Japan got more games for those systems in the first place, so they have a larger pool of games to choose from. And really, the amount of VC games exclusive to Japan which also have a western release doesn't really surpass 15, maybe even 10 games. As to why we don't have THOSE games, well I don't really have an answer for that. If that's not an acceptable answer then: Blame Namco.Q. What the heck is your favicon supposed to be? Why did you screw up that Super Famicom logo?
A. Oh the favicon! That's the logo for the Satellaview, an add-on for the Super Famicom (SNES) in Japan. It was the first home for digitally distributed games from Nintendo so I thought it was appropriate.
